Getting ATV Insurance

When you make investments in vehicles beyond your car, you will still want them covered in case of an accident.  After all, many off-road equipped vehicles will cost just as much as a used car.  This is certainly true in the case of ATVs.  Buying insurance for your ATV is a little bit different than getting standard auto insurance quotes, but many of the fundamentals remain the same.  Here is the basic process you will want to follow.

Do your homework before you get started.  Know about your vehicle’s classification, the applicable state laws that you have to follow for the vehicle, and the make and model of your ATV.  One thing to keep in mind is that, due to the higher risk of ATVs, you’re likely to pay a higher premium on the ATV than you would on a similarly priced car.  However, the same discounts that apply to your car insurance will also apply to your ATV insurance, and you can get a lower all around price by working with your current car insurance company.  Start there.  Talking with your auto insurance agent will give you an idea of what discounts you’re eligible to receive. This is the first quote that you’ll want to get.

Once you’ve received a quote from your car insurance company on your total insurance package, begin looking at both combination deals with your car and ATV and stand alone insurance for your ATV from other providers.  A simple online search will show you insurance companies that provide insurance for all terrain vehicles. Many of these same companies offer online quotes and online chat assistance, which may be useful.  In many cases, due to the more unique situation, you will want to call an agent to clarify how you want your ATV insurance set up.
